The crew of Lancaster AJ-A (ED887) 617 Squadron 'Dambusters'
On 17 May 1943 at 2:58 am, after an operation on the German dams, Avro Lancaster AJ-A (ED887) 617 Squadron 'Dambusters' crashed south of Castricum aan Zee. All seven crew members were killed and are buried in Bergen General Cemetery (North Holland).

May 2018 marks the 75th anniversary of the 'Dambusters' raid. As a tribute to the seven crew members of Lancaster AJ-A a commemorative plaque was unveiled on Friday 18 May 2018, at Castricum aan Zee.
